This is not really a disaster only because it was an unplanned, personal cake. At the last minute, I decided to make an oatmeal cake from my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I was taking in on a 2 nighter close to home motorcycle rally and we were taking the motorhome. I was driving it for the first time and my DH was riding the MC. He was getting off work at 7 a. and he was going to sleep until 10 so I needed something to do. I mixed and baked the one layer cake took it out of the oven and while I was waiting for it to cool, I mixed the cream cheese buttercream with a tsp of cinnamon in it. When it was cool, I torted it and filled it with Caramel ice cream sauce. Iced the cake and used some of the icing for some stems and leaves to use with the Roses I had had in the freezer for 2 months left over from another cake. Just barely had enough icing for the job. It looked good, but I didn't take a picture because it was very average looking. I took it in my cake carrier to the RV refridgerator but it wouldn't fit so I put it in on the 3 footed cake plate and off we went. We drove about 10 miles to the rally and when we stopped to check in, I opened the refridgerator door to check on the cake and caught it in mid-air as it was falling out. It ended up with both hand prints on either side of the cake and a Pepsi can print in another spot. Good news, it didn't hit the floor and was one of the best tasting cakes ever.
