My niece has requested a cake with whipped cream and fresh sliced strawberry filling for her birthday. Should I use a yellow cake or white cake?
I plan to use the cake extender recipe. I'm covering her cake with mmf.
Thanks!

I use a white cake but yellow would be good too. To me the white is lighter so it lets the strawberry and wc flavors really shine. Since you are going to have to refridgerate this cake and you are using mmf just make sure you don't touch the cake once it comes out of the fridge till the condensation dries and your mmf will look just like it did when you put it in! I've never tried wc under mmf. Let me know how it turns out!

Thanks dodibug!
I've refrigerated my 2 mmf cakes and so far no problems. (I've only made 2 cakes so far)
I'm using a super stabilized whipped cream recipe I have used before.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I would do the white also, it just looks better with the strawberries

I'd prefer the white cake and strawberries.

Does your niece like strawberry shortcake? If she does, then I'd opt for the yellow cake.

Can't wait to see your finished creation.

Okay. I've finished the cake. I was worried about the whipped cream and fresh fruit filling holding up to the MMF. I did refrigerate the cake and it was just fine! I've posted the in my photos. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help.

It looks great! I've wanted to do one of those but I haven't had the time or occaision to try....yet! icon_wink.gif

Did you use the stabilized whipped cream icing as your crumb coat for the mmf to stick to? Just curious if that can be done/how you did it ordid you use a layer of buttercream.

Thanks for the compliments dodibug!

Ahhh...I kinda cheated and used whipped icing from the can icon_redface.gif
It really didn't make a difference, you couldn't taste the icing.
