When you make a cake for someone with fondant roses, etc. do you sometimes ask that they be returned to you? I made my last cake for Wilton 3 and it turned out really beautiful! I was surprised because before I started decorating, I told everyone in class that I knew I wasn't going to like it. But I proved myself wrong. So, I wanted to give the cakes away to a couple neighbors, but I'm not sure I can stand the thought of them picking the roses off and tossing them!
Would it seem weird to ask for them back?

I'm not sure you would really want them back. If the flowers are attached with buttercream or put on a buttercream cake, then you will have that all over them and it could soften the petals that were against it. Plus petals will probably get broken when being taken off and 'set aside' to be returned.

They are stuck on with toothpicks and on fondant covered cakes. I would be able to just pull them right out.

I think it's too late anyway. I'll probably just trash the cakes and keep the roses.
