What buttercream recipe do you like the best? I just like to get opinions on which is the best to you. I find my recipe tastes good, but a little greasy.

I use this one:

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening

Measure in 1/2 cup water, 1 1/2 tbsp vanilla, 1 capful almond flavoring
2 tbsp meringue pwdr (mix together)

8 cups icing sugar

That is basically the one I tend to use too, but my husband doesn't love almond flavoring. Lots of time I replace most or all of the liquid with lime juice. It tastes really nice. It wouldn't be for all cakes, but for vanilla or fruit flavored cakes it is really good.

Cowgirl-

My recipe is the same without the almond flavoring and except for water, I use canned milk and I add about a 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Brickflor-

I tend to use corn syrup to thin down my icing too, it makes it so nice and smooth doesn't it? I told someone this once and she said something akin to doesn't it have enough sugar already? But I figure that even though I am adding a little bit more sugar, it doesn't really matter, does it? I mean it is butter, shortening and sugar, what's another couple Tablespoons of sugar in the long run? And I've found it makes a real nice buttercream as well.

I was just wondering how this recipe does as far as decorating and making roses, etc.

I agree panda, it is sooo smooth! But corn syrup isn't that sweet, it is more sugar but I think since I use the salted butter it helps to cut the sweetness. And we're not making health food right? icon_lol.gif
Butternut, if you look in my photos you can see how this recipe works for decorations and roses, it's the only frosting I use besides chocolate bc. I have VERY hot hands and a warm kitchen so to keep the frosting from getting too soft I put a cookie sheet over a bowl of ice water and keep my bags on it.

I use the buttercream dream. It is really good and not that sweet, if you think its still a little to sweet just add a little popcorn salt to it.
