I want to make cookies for my son's soccer team this weekend, but I only need a few cookies. I was wondering if I could go ahead and use the rest of the batter to make some Halloween cookies to use at a later date. If I can freeze them, can they be decorated before freezing or should I just freeze them unfrosted? If I freeze them unfrosted, how long do I need to let them thaw before they can be frosted? Thanks!

I know that you can freeze them, but I was wondering the same thing-can you freeze them frosted?

I was thinking about flooding mine and freezing them, then detailing them after I pulled em out.

Can you do this?

I've frozen them, but only unfrosted. I suspect the colors might bleed when defrosting. Why don't you PM antonia74? She's always very helpful!

From what I've read on here, you can freeze the un-iced cookies (or dough) and let thaw thoroughly first before icing. But freezing with the icing on creates moisture on the icing which is not good. I personally have not frozen iced ones.

I froze two of my decorated cookies to see what would happen. I haven't taken them out of the freezer yet, but they have been in there for about six months and they still look ok. I think it would be optimal to put them in before they are decorated, but from my test it looks like they will be ok decorated too. If you are using tons of colors that may leak together, I may avoid freezing them decorated though.

Just saw this comment on another topic:

Royal icing is my favorite for decorating cookies. Once it dries, the cookies can be stacked. I recently discovered that cookies frosted with royal can be frozen and thawed with no ill effect. Just be sure to separate each layer.

Hope this helps!

I was just going to ask that question! Great to know they can be frozen - this will help for seasonal cookies.

Does anyone know if Alice's Cookie Icing can be used before freezing? I'm not sure what category it falls under, and I do not want to mess it up thawing them.

Hi,
I freeze my cookies decorated all the time. I even bag them and tie them, with a tag that is printed, and they thaw out fine..Everyone always says they are great!! I am all for freezing them!! I use no fail sugar cookies, and royal icing..
