The OC fair decorated cake competition was yesterday.
CCer SweetTcakes won best cake and a blue ribbon in Novelty. CONGRATS!

it was so much fun and despite the pressure that I put on myself it was a pretty laid back experience.
I learned so much, from just the competition experience to the new techniques that I used on my fair cake. I would encourage more people to try next year. (including those who chickened out this year)
there were only 5 cakes entered (1 Novelty, 4 Fair themed)

I had no idea what to expect, so I thought I'd post to help others out and feel up to doing it!

Hey ya'll, I hope more people participate next year. I really enjoyed the experiance. It kinda sucked that I won my category by default. It would have been nice to see allot more cakes.

Jen is right , it was really laid back. Not what I expected. I guess I expected it to be super tense, a bunch of nail biting, ya know?

I entered cause I thought it would be fun, and that is exactlly what it was.

The contest that we were in was for ametures. The proffesional bakers were in a contest on a prior date. So this particular contest was for enthusiasts and hobbyists. Absolutely no pressure.

Just a side note, next years theme is "Say Cheese" and the cow that they chose is the black spotted california cheese cow. The lady from the fair couldn't think of the name of that type of cow and niether can I. Start planning, ya'll..

Ours for this year is (i think) Home grown fun! I think that will be fun!

Awe darn! i honestly didnt even know they had this open for the fair????? im going to the fair on Thurs ! woot woot!!! hopefully next year ill have the guts to enter but the entres are amazing! GREAT JOB!

your contest entries look great! I am getting ready to enter into my first fair competition next week ... I told my dh I hope I at least get a ribbon and he said .. you don't know what kind of competition you will be up against .. you could be up against the best of the best or you could be up against two kids ... I said well if any kid wins a ribbon over me I am not above crying about it! LOL no seriously that is true LOL Anyways our cakes for the competition are entered in on a Sunday and judged that same day, but they are on display all week .. The fair coordinator told me it would be best to use a dummy cake .. I have never done a contest or a dummy cake before so it will be a first for me on many levels! Congratulations on both of your wins!
