I had an idea until you said "It's the whole coffee shop idea". Can you elaborate on that a little more? I mean, I've watched it...I know what you mean by the coffee shop...but what else are they doing at this shower to gear it specifically toward the coffee shop on the show?

How about a cup of coffee or the logo for the coffe shop?

Well I think you should do an actual cup of coffee with the Central Perk logo on it just like they had it in the window. Im a Friends fanatic so if you need any "history" I can give it to you. Another thing that would be cute is if you put the Duck and Chicken in there somewhere with the coffee cup.

I came up with the idea before I read what you all wrote. I would make 1 or 2 coffee cups using ball pan to put on top of a 1/2 sheet cake. the amount of cups would depend on how much she wants to spend. I would put the bride and grooms names on the cups. I'll post pictures when I do it in about 3 weeks. Thank you for all your thoughts.

The first picture that comes to mind is the orange couch and the coffee table... with a pile of presents or cake on it?
I loved that show too and watched it all on DVD after it ended... I can't wait to hear other suggestions! It's a fun theme!

that is a great idea with the people- but you're right... It would be intensive/expensive! The coffee mugs were also a great idea! The sheet cake could look like a table surface and maybe you could make a wedding or shower invitation to set on it, or a ring box... lots of possibilities! Good luck with the cake icon_smile.gif

I've seen cakes with white icing and white writing on them... very elegant. You could write funny catch phrases from the show on the cake (they could all be about love and weddings). Also, you could make the icing whatever colour you want depending on how much you want it to stand out.

Another idea would be to do a stacked cake with at least 4in difference in tiers (eg. 16, 12, icon_cool.gif. You could add fondant figures of key things that appeared on the show (as weirkd mentioned, a duck and a chicken; also coffee cups, the orange couch, dinosaur bones, a script, etc.)

Have fun with the cake... it sounds like an amazing opportunity! Make sure you post pictures when it's all done.

Thank you for the the advice. I will run it by my friend..

Steph, great picture. what did you use for the coffee? Choc? if so what kind ... I was going to use brown fondant or gel. I also like the handle... was it hard to make it stick?

The coffee is ganache. The cake was mocha, so the flavors were great together. For the handle, I just stuck toothpicks in the ends and then stuck to the cake. I would probably add some RI to attach it.

Make sure to make everything ahead of time-handle spoons ect so they can dry. Mine were almost not dry enough to use.

I like your idea of the sheet cake with the coffee cups. I think it would be cool to do the border of the sheet cake to look like the picture frame that hangs around the peephole on their apartment door. Sounds like a fun cake!

Here's a couple of ideas:

There was a funky yellow frame that was over monica's peephole...make that and put a picture of the couple in it on top of the cake

How about writing "I'll be there for you" in white on the sides of the cake.

How about " He's her lobster. " ( reference to the deep attachment of Rachel to Ross)

Now I've gone too deep....stick with the coffee house ideas, they are much more easily reconginized as Friends.

Cute cake! I'm glad it turned out so well. The coffee cup with the steam was a great idea. I'm sure the couple loved it.
