Do you have a signature style--something that sets you apart, that others can recognize your work by? Do you specialize in whimsical/topsy turvy cakes or maybe beach themed cakes or decorative cookies or something else? I'd love to see how diverse our group is (pictures, web site links, that sort of thing).

I specialize in buttercream sculpted cakes, but most people around here can't afford them, LOL. It's mostly a competition/cake show thing, since most sculpture is in fondant. But I love showing off what can be done with buttercream!

I try to make things very neat and smooth.....whether it's fondant, a ribbon, a character....I work on the technical stuff a lot....

does that constitute a "signature"? I also like to be a little different in design when I can be....so when I can't make my cake very different (Like a requested LV purse cake)...I strive to make it the best it can look....

I don't have a style right now since I'm only on cake #4 and am doing practice cakes but eventually I'd like to specialize in the whimsical designed cakes. Not necessarily topsy turvy (my favorite) but any whimsical design, big or small. I think that style is so gorgeous and fun!

Edited to say: And I'll probably only work with fondant unless I don't have a choice. I'm not really a buttercream girl. Can't work that stuff to save my life.

Most people recognize my work by my flowers. I am teased about being obsessive-compulsive for their thinness and trying to make them as botanically correct as possible. Pinks and extreme neatness are my other signature styles. I get harassed a LOT about being so picky about detail. icon_lol.gif

Hm, I was thinking to myself, I know of someone from Choctaw, now who could that be?? LOL, then I checked your website. Good to have you on board, Michele! We'll be seeing you at the Tulsa show, right?

I like sculpted cakes, cakes that are decorated with things other than icing (gummy candy, chocolate), 3-dimensional cakes. Nothing too fancy, just something that makes my cakes stand out against others, without being over the top. They just aren't ready for that around here yet.

I am trying to get everything down right now, so I do not have a signature, but I probably will find one as I get more and more experienced.

I guess that I would like my signature to be that I can be a baker that can make anything (within reason)! I am not a liscenced baker yet, so this is just a hobby, so I am trying to not let it become stressful, I just want to see people smile! To me that is the best signature! (Ok, I know that I sound corney!)

My signature style is sculpted cakes. And the Jerry Cake--if anyone has one at a party or wedding, it's "Pam, made that cake".

All bathed in Dk. Chocolate Ganache
Chocolate Tiles on sides.

There are several in my photos. Some have chocolate dipped strawberries on them.

I don't really have a signature.. I just want my cakes to taste really good and want them to be fun and make the recipient smile. If I can do that then I am happy with the cake.

Signature....hmmm....I guess mine would be dainty things? I like to work small detail in BC, and in fondant I love to do romantic pieces (lace & pearls...that kind of thing).

I will whoop for JOY when this last blasted trailer gets unpacked so I can recover my portfolio pics and all my cookbooks. When we moved we filled a 24' UHaul truck, a 32' trailer, and a 16' trailer. Think I have much "stuff"? LOL!

I don't have a signature style (however, people here on CC seem to know when it's one of my cakes LOL). However, I do have a signature cake. It's the Double Chocolate Layer Cake with Bittersweet Chocolate Frosting. Everyone loves it and everyone orders it. I've made so many of them that I lost count!! LOL

Lazy_Susan, you DO seem to have a few of those in your gallery and BOY do they look great!! I think it's wonderful when you get to be known for something in particular that you really like to do. And I hope you really like doing them. I think that's a blessing.

I think my signature style would typically be simple elegance -- although I can go over the top if request.

My personal/business style would be pink, pink, pink. My friends/family can spot my business cards, booth at an expo/show, flyers, etc. from a mile away!

It has been a few months but I am starting to get back into decorating. I guess my friends know me for my sculpting and painting. I always go for the WOW. They never know what to expect from me.

Hopefully, with Deanna's help, I will have some gumpaste flowers in my album in the future. I would love to make some realistic flowers on an elegant cake.

I don't know if its a big deal. But I loosely mix colors. When i make buttercream/royal icing flowers i mix (lets say pink and yellow) slighty so that it generally resembles peach but there are streaks of pinkish and spots of yellow, AND every flower has a different color pattern. I love it

Mine would be very bright colours, swirls and height - all my cakes have to be tiered - I don't do flat cakes, not even for small parties!

I'm known as the lady who makes the weird cakes. Seriously. I get the customers who want the weird things. Not adult cakes, but just ecletic (sp?) taste I guess you would say. (IE- South Park wedding cake) 9 times our of 10, its via word of mouth that I get requests because they heard about "that" cake. I guess it is good and bad because people either love it or hate it- no in between.
