How do I color MMF brown? I try adding the brown color paste but it almost looks like a old pink nothing like brown, I really want to use chocolate fondant for the darker brwon but I still can make a lighter brwon.
You may have to add more color to it. I use Americolor's chocolate brown and keep adding until I get the shade I want.
You could probably mix a couple colors together...like red and green...but I've never done that.
I love Americolors. I still have some Wilton color jars...the only reason I haven't thrown them out yet is because I hate to waste stuff! So I still have them and use sparingly lol....but I prefer Americolors.
you can just lighten choc fondant by adding white fondant to it so that you have different shades of brown.
But for a brown or black fondant, it's best to start with choc fondant, otherwise it's a lot of colour being used and it tends to break down the fondant
I made a few brown fondant bows (pics in my photos) and I just used the Wilton brown but I had to add a lot of it. I probably used a whole jar. I think I might of even added some red and some black to darken it up.
I just made some chocolate MMF using the recipe here for MMF but adding 2 squares of unsweetened chocolate by Baker's to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the sugar. Haven't used it yet but looks like it worked. I didn't add as much sugar as I usually do though.
I just made some chocolate MMF yesterday for DH's bday cake. I honestly cannot tell you amounts of what I used since I kinda eyeballed it, but I just added cocoa powder in place of some of the powdered sugar. It worked great and it came out a deep brown and I did not have to add any color paste.
Good luck.
