I'm doing a super hero cake and i would like to incorporate Captain America's shield and the X-men emblem as the "boarder" for my cakes.

Do you think using fondant or gumpast is best (I want them to stand upright and wrap around the cake)?

Also, what would you say is the best way to decorate them: using a paint brush, strips of fondant or something else? I think the x-men emblem is the easiest b/c it is yellow with a big X on it and for that I can use a round cookie cutter to cut out yellow fondant. then i can cut out the X and place on top of the yellow circle and let dry.

So.... I guess my biggest concern is Captain America.

Any thoughts?

Thanks![/img]

Do you want them to curve around the cake or just stand up? I'd say that if you wanted them curved around (and cuttable) to make them out of fondant right before putting on the cake.

However, if you want them to dry completely hard, I'd make them out of gumpaste.

Captain America shouldn't be too hard, I'd suggest fondant cutouts, be sure to roll them fairly thin though. I think that would be easiest. Or, you could do them out of color flow or royal icing. That way, you'd get them fairly flat.

Actually, are you doing the round CA sheild or the other one?

Feel free to PM me about all this - my hubby is a comic book freak LOL (his fave being, X-Men!). icon_smile.gif
