I have their/her (Dottie Smith) book so I went and checked. Interestingly, there are recipes in there for cream cheese icing, royal icing, petit four icing, and chocolate buttercream, but no regular old buttercream. I'm guessing it's secret, but in the intro, she does mention the icing her mother used to make as "mounds of butter creamed together with sugar, a combination that eventually provided the instiration for the buttercream frosting we make at Edgar's..."

By the way, the chocolate buttercream seems pretty standard powdered sugar, butter and cocoa and water.
