Hello everyone,
I have pretty much given up on trying to learn how to make flowers with buttercream. I am hoping that maybe I will be able to learn how to make flowers with fondant. In your experiences, are fondant flowers easier to make? do you think it would be beneficial for me to buy the flower making kit that Michael's sells? Thank you again.

I gave up on buttercream roses also. Certain types of flowers are very easy:

Ribbon rose:

The flower I use that doesn't have a name.

Depends really... some poeple find it more easy to work with butter cream and some people work better with sugar paste or fondant. I personaly work better with fondant and sugar paste as i use it everyday where as butter cream is my weakness... It wouldnt hurt it give it a go as you never know you might find a new talent! icon_lol.gif

You mean gumpaste flowers.

Patience and determination are keys to successful flower creations, as is with anything else regarding cake decorating.

Once you get the hang of the fundamentals of gumpaste flower creations, you can pick out almost any silk flowers in a store and have some idea of how to create it. I teach this approach to my students. It really is fun to create flowers.

Don't give up!

Did you take the gumpaste/fondant course at the craft stores? The fantasy flower is very easy. I personally had trouble with the carnation but everyone else was knocking them out beautifully. The roses I did in Course III were decent. I have trouble working with strips of things but someone in the class said he knocks the ribbon roses out real quick. I haven't tried them yet. I like cut outs to work with.

Definitely give the gumpaste kit a try too. I bought it after I took the gumpaste course. I haven't had time to really practice but when I gave a "chrysanthemum" a quick try, I was impressed at the potential. I think I'll be able to make nice ones when I have time to try again. I was dead tired when I did it & was looking for an alternative to the fantasy flower I wound up putting on a hat. Will definitely try it again.

You don't know what you can do until you try. Good luck!
