tons of ideas!
Mailbox News magazine has a very cute idea on the cover of the magazine. There are also a few more ideas on the inside cover that aren't flags. The description of the cake on the cover is: several round cakes stacked, covered in fondant with star accents all around, "exploding" fondant stars & balls out of the top. HTH
What about an Uncle Sam hat or something military or a fireworks cake. I'm planning on making some yellow ribbon cookies for co-workers.
oh yah I was wondering if I do an uncle sams hat if I should do a 3-d one or a flat one using a sheet cake...

Look at my pics, I have a patriotic cake in my pics. It isn't the best but it is original and I have tips on how to do it better then I did. If your interested let me know
I like the idea of an uncle sam hat.
I also have one in my photos that I got rave reviews about b/c it was red/white/blue checkerboard. You could do the same thing except make a blue cake, red cake, and white cake. Then tort each layer and stack alternating colors. I think this would be pretty cool too.
