how do I make rice krispie treats to use in heads on cakes. And is it hard to cover in fondant.
I use the recipe on the back of the rice krispie box and then shape it and let it get hard (in the fridge). I then ice it with a layer of buttercream and cover it in fondant and if I can still see the rice krispie "bumps" thru the fondant then I put another layer of fondant on. I'm sure there is a much easier way to do it, so hopefully you can get these clever CC'ers to help you out.
thanks. But the recipe? I don't have any recipe on the rice krispie box here in denmark.
Would you be so kind to write it here or pm me?
I have not tried molding rice krispie treats yet, but remembered reading that it is easier to do and makes the "structure" is more stable if you do not add the margarine or butter to the recipe and just mix the melted marshmellows with the rice krispies. My question is, doesn't this make it so sticky that you can't get it off the sides of the pan? Any tips on how to do this and not have a lot of waste because of the mixture sticking to the pan?
Thank you!!
Ridan1000--here is the traditional recipe for rice krispie treats:
(50 mL) 1/4 cup margarine or butter
(250 g 1 pkg) (about 40) regular marshmallows or 5 cups miniature
(2 mL) 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
(1.5 L) 6 cups RICE KRISPIES* cereal
PREPARATION
Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
Stir in vanilla. Stir in KELLOGG'S* RICE KRISPIES* cereal until well coated. Using lightly buttered spatula, press into buttered 3.5 L (13 x 9") pan.
Allow mixture to cool. Cut into bars. Best if served same day.
I've used Rice Krispies several times for figures. I make the traditional recipe and add a little more cereal (sometimes). I squeeze the mass as hard as I can when forming the figure, then after it has set for a day or two, I finish shaping with a knife, this helps get rid of the bumps. I let it rest another 24 hours or so and then cover it with RI. That takes care of the bumps, completely. When the RI is dry, you can sand it if you need a smoother surface or cover with fondant. HTH
thanks... I cant wait to try. Me son wants a spiderman cake for his birthday so I have to try it a couple of times before so it will be perfect... So thanks...
After you have measured you rice krispies, crush them a little finer than they are. then add them to your marshmallow mix. they shouldn't be as bumpy when you crush them. let them set for a while, then put on a thin layer of BC icing. this has worked for me. Good luck.
