my son's mate asked if I would make him a birthday cake on Tuesday for the following Friday, he says its for 12 ppl and he wanted Mississippi mud with banana MMF.... I agree to do it as its small. So I start discussing sizes and designs with him. He says he wants the Samoan flag and his full name written in black on the cake .....(simple) Then he hands me a sample of the lettering he wants Then he shows me the size he wants.....he stretches his arms out and says he wants it this big....about 1 metre ... I thought he was playing games with me, so I get out the cake tins to show him the sizes. He picks up a 14in sqaure tin and says he wants that size by 4 (it would take me 3 days just to bake that amount of cake) . I said that is a huge amount of cake for 12 ppl ....he just grinned at me and said his mum and aunt love cake....lol!!! I ended up talking him down on the size .......2 x 14in (still too big) pic is in my album its huge.....and as for the letterng....I think I will have writers cramp for the next month!!! My son came home from the party and said there wasn't much left!!!!
Wow...it's a gorgeous cake. Give some folks an inch and they take a mile...but you did a fantastic job. How did you do the lettering? Surely that's not freehand? (oh my, I have a long way to go...)
yep the lettering is freehand!!! I'm suprised it come up better than I thought it would....i wasn't real confident at even attempting it, especially in black on white...!!
I have to say the lettering is absoluly amesing. I love it.
Like all you'r cakes are amesing. You are really talented.
Just like a guy! NO CLUE! LOL
Oh my gosh! I looked at the cake in your photos and it is INCREDIBLE!! But, hey BIG CAKE for a BIG DAY! I bet at 18 he thinks he's a "Big Boy" now doesn't he? LOL

Yep the cake is amazing. I love the lettering...it almost looks 3 dimensional. So you didn't even use stensils to do the lettering?
Wow woman!!! That is one heck of a cake.. nice and simple.. Typical male.. no idea how hard it is to do that. The lettering is great!!
I painted the lettering on freehand. I have found if I print the lettering out in the font style and roughly the size I want it, I lay it on or in front of the cake and just copy it letter for letter it , having the printed piece in front of you gives you a really good visual it also helps with spacing. Sometimes if I'm having trouble with fancy lettering, I turn everything around and paint it upside down.... strange I know ....but it works really well
