Okay, this is what I am looking for~!

A frosting that can stand to the heat and humidity
A frosting that isn't as sweet as normal BC
A frosting that is easy to use for decorating

I am getting complaints on the frosting being to sweet and it really sucks when you put in hours of work and the cake is great, but......too sweet icon_cry.gif

TIA Jessica

Try the WHIPPED CREAM BUTTERCREAM in the recipe section. It's not to sweet, holds up great, and is easy to work with......

This is Dragonwarlord's recipe - it is my absolute favorite!

Dream Whip Icing

2lbs or 1 kg bag of confectioners sugar
1 pkg dream whip
2 cups crisco shortening

1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp clear vanilla flavouring
1 Tbsp clear corn syrup
2 Tbsp to ¼ cup flour

"Whip up till fluffy. No need for refrigeration but it is fine in the fridge as well. Tastes great, not so sweet and crusts well. I have tried so many and this is now my main buttercream."

Can I do a buttercream transfer on top of this?

I made Dragonwarlord's recipe over the weekend and it is my new favorite buttercream. It tastes very light and not too sweet......really good!!!

I also made it this past weekend. It is so good. I didn't try and fbct on it but I think it should work. I'll find out next weekend when I do my daughter birthday cake. It was so good that I've been eating the leftovers out of the bowl.

Hey coolchica....did it crust for you? I made it and haven't used it yet, but I was wondering if it crusted well. Thanks!

It crusted fine after I added the flour. When I first made it I had a 4yr old wanting me so I forgot to add it. I tried it on some cookies and didn't know why it didn't crust. Than I noticed that I didn't add the flour.

So the flour makes it crust? Gotcha. Did you add 1/4 cup?

It was about 1/4 cup. I'm wondering if meringue powder would work for it to crust also. Might try that next time.

Will this frosting hold up unrefridgerated? I want to cover it with MMF so it will sit a couple of days at room temp.

Thanks!

I'm sure it will. There isn't anything in it that would spoil.

I have another question. Is dream whip dairy free? One of the kids thats coming is allergic to milk and eggs and I want to make sure he can eat it too.

seagoat -

The Whipped Cream Buttercream has no dairy in it, despite its name. I know that is confusing.

If I need a light, smooth, BC that is not so sweet - and one that hold up nicely in hot weather - that's the one I've found to be the most effective....for me. It's delicious.

I will usually add a little bit more flavorings - but it's a pretty good recipe.

No Whipped Cream in it.

It really should have a different name because so many are put-off thinking it is dairy.

I bought some Dream Whip yesterday to try this recipe. I just noticed how much Crisco is in the recipe. I would like to know if anyone thinks this recipe has a greasy feel or taste?

Thanks,
darkchocolate

I recently tried this recipe twice. Neither time could I get it to "stick" to my cake very well.

Didn't notice greasey taste or feel, but definately tasted different, i'll probably go back to my other.

Thanks

I used this recipe for my daughter birthday cake over the weekend and it worked great. I was able to do my fbct on top with no problem. Even had someone ask me where I bought it. I'll try to post a pic later if I can figure it out. I'll be using this one again.
