Does anyone know the laws for home cake businesses in South Carolina? Possibly point me in the right direction? I have looked on the SC DHEC website. No help there. icon_cry.gif
Thanks for any advice

Not sure if you have looked at this or not but Jackie has set up a page in the "article" section of this website, it might be of some help to you in finding information on the laws in your state:

Hate to tell you this but not allowed in South Carolina. The law says you have to have a commerical kitchen and home based food operations are not allowed. Bummer I know but I am from SC and have checked it out. I would look into renting a comerical kitchen say like from a church or organization of some type. Most of these places have kitchens though some of them may not be up to code. You could ask them if they would rent the kitchen to you on days they are not using it which most of these places do not use them but every so often. Have a health inspector come in and tell you what has to be done to bring the kitchen up to code if your wallet can stand it tell the church or other organization that you will pay for the upgrade if they will allow you to rent the space for a small fee. About your only option unless you can afford to build a separate kitchen area off of your home. Law in SC says that commerical kitchens cannot be in the same area as the living quarters.Hope this helps. Not trying to discourage you just do not want you to get into trouble.

Thank you very much for the information. I am not discouraged. I had actually wondered if that would be the case. I will ask my pastor if I can use the church kitchen. I don't think he will mind since I go in there every other month to clean & organize the kitchen area. thumbs_up.gif
