I have an idea for a cake that I am going to do for fathers day. It requires a pillar. Will a boxed cake be sturdy enough to hold in place or should I try to make a heavier cake? If anyone has any good tips on using pillars, please let me know.

chele,

I use boxed mixes, and have never had a problem using pillars, both the push-in and hidden pillars.

Good luck!

I have used the regular boxed mixes and have had no problem, but I like using the cake mix extender recipe for a denser, moist cake. Holds up great.

I use boxes all the time with pillars.
