Hi all! I'd like to try sculpting a cake for the first time, but I'm not sure where to begin. What's the easiest shape to start with? I'm planning on making a chocolate mudcake (which I haven't made before, but it sounds SOOOO good) and I'm open to any ideas. This is just a "for fun" cake, so anything goes! Detailed instructions would be great, too. Thanks!

I find the easiest way to do a shaped or sculpted cake is to draw out a pattern on a sheet of paper, cut it out, lay it on the cake (while frozen) and cut it out........this is what I did for my guitar cake!! Very simple when you have the pattern. Or did you want to do a sculpted 3-d stand up type of cake?? The mud cake (don't know how sturdy it is though) might be cool to do a flower pot cake with....then when you cut the flower pot open it would REALLY look like potting soil LOL
