Ok.. I posted something below and I think I should have just targeted people from my state..

I want to start a small cake decorating business and I have NO idea where to begin... I called the dept of agriculture and they were not helpful at all.. I know I need to rent a kitchen but Im trying to figure out if there are rules to what kind of kitchen or how often you have to rent, etc.

If you have a place where you found this information could you lead me in the right direction.

TIA!

I really don't have much info, but I think it really sucks that I can't bake out of my own kitchen. I would put my kitchen up against any restraunt any day. Anyway, I called the dept of agriculture as well and they told me the same thing. I would suggest calling a local chuch or school and ask them about their availablity to rent a kitchen and and what their terms are...I do know that you have to store your equipment and food there....

Hi there and welcome to CC!

Start here:

http://www.michigan.gov/mda/0,1607,7-125-1568---,00.html

Click on how to start a business and then click on "Food establishment licensing step by step guide". Warning: there is a lot of reading.

Also if you ever need to know about any type of licensing type this in your browser: michigan.gov/statelicensesearch.

HTH!
