I was so proud of my latest cake. I had made it for my sister to take to work with her today. I was very happy with the final product. I always see something I would do differently if I had it to do again, but all in all I was pretty satisfied with the cake. The cake was a 2 layer 12" round cake with strawberry buttercream filling, iced in buttercream with fondant and choc. transfer accents. I delivered the cake to my sister last night. She lives about 15 minutes from me. We live in the country and have some bumpy, twisty roads to travel. As a matter of fact, I have to travel on a dirt road to get to my sisters house! My DH drove and I reminded him "CAKE ON BOARD!". Got to my sisters, peeked in the top of the box and everything looked ok, I gave a deep sigh of relief! Got inside the house and when we went to slide the cake out of the box so that my sister could see the sides ---I was horrified! The top layer had slide enough to crack the icing and make the sides look buckled! You can't imagine how dissapointed I was. I had spent alot of time working on that cake. Now it was time for damage control. How was she going to get that cake to work without anymore damage? She didn't have any dowels, but did have some socures (I know that's not spelled correctly, sorry brain dead right now.) I put about 6 of them in the cake to try to help stableize it to for to get it to work. I haven't heard from her yet today, so I'm not sure how it went. I'm hoping for the best. At least I got a few good pictures before it slid! I learn something new with every cake I do. Next time I'm transporting a cake that size, you had better believe it will have a nice big dowel thru the center! Thanks for letting me release my frustrations.

Peg, Thanks. I will definitely try that the next time. Live and learn I guess! Has anyone else had an experience with a cake this size sliding? It didn't even occur to me that would happen. Any other ideas or suggestions are more than welcome.

Just got good news. My sister got the cake to school with no more damage. Everyone loved it and it was gone before lunch time!
