i have a 14, 10, 6 (2 layers each) cake and have wooden dowels for it but don't know at what point to put them in (OR HOW!) And, should i transport it together? Or put in in seperate boxes and put it together there? I'm most confused about the dowels and the cake circles and the fondant. Do the dowels go THRU the cake circles? I have to dowel them AFTER the fondant, right????? So confused.

Here is the link for the tutorial on cakecentral.

If you decide to assemble the cake before you take it then you will have to put a dowel (or a few dowels) down the center of the whole cake AFTER the fondant is on it. The dowel(s) go right through the cake boards.

You have to go back and cover the hole from the dowel with a decoration.

Yes, first read through the directions for stacked tiers. For the fondant, you cover each cake first. Then on the bottom tier, you just measure the area where the circle of the next tier will go. You put dowels in to support it. I put one right in the middle of the circle, then 4 more around the circle, just inside where the next tier will go. Do the same for the next tier. I hope this makes sense to you! Most of the time, I transport the whole stacked cake together, as I don't want to have to decorate when I get to the reception. But make sure you take a patch it up kit with you, of all the items you might need to fix the cake if something happens during travel.
