I recently made a practice cake with buttercream icing and covered in MMF. After serving it I thought it was WAY too sweet, and the friends trying it out agreed as well. I was just wondering if there was a way to "tame down" the sweetness? Any help would be appreciated. The buttercream icing has one stick of butter, 2tbsp of vanilla, 1 1/2 cups of crisco and 4cups of powdered sugar. The MMF just has one bag of marshmallows and 1 bag of powdered sugar. Thanks again!!

Here's a multi-linked thread that might be helpful:

(Don't let the topic/subject put you off, there are many good b/c frosting recipes.)

The fondant is sweet as is regular BC. I prefered Toba Garrett's fondant and instead of xxx buttercream, I prefer IMBC like Shirleys...in recipes.

I put a pinch of salt in my BC recipe. It cuts the sweetness

I'll second the IMBC.....LOVE that stuff.

If you eat the fondant on the cake I can imagine that it would be very sweet with regular 10X icing. Try the IMBC and see what you think. It's nice to pipe with too. I do all my icing flowers with it and borders. You just have to pop it in the fridge every now and then but it's really nice to ice a cake with because it gets really smooth.

Have fun !
