Crimp Design On The Side Of Fondant Mini Cakes
Decorating By slejdick Updated 13 May 2006 , 12:09pm by slejdick
I hope this sounds familiar to someone.
I recently saw a picture of three mini cakes, and I thought maybe it was on the Wilton website but now I can't find it.
There were three mini fondant covered cakes in one picture, and on the sides of the cakes there was a design made with some sort of a crimper. The crimp was a curved design, and was repeated along the bottom edge of the cake, looking somewhat like drop strings, but not going all the way to the top of the cake.
If anybody knows where this picture is, I would love to see it again.
More importantly, I'm trying to figure out what type of crimping tool was used for this, and where I can find one. Hoping by my description that someone can help me figure this out!
Thanks!
Laura.
I know I've seen some crimping on fondant cakes in this site before but to locate them would take a few hours to say the least!! Have you searched any cake supply web sites for crimping tools? They've GOT to be out there somewhere!!!!
You could also experiment with different things in your own home to get a cool crimped look too. Try different kitchen tools/gadgets, stamps, textures, stencils, etc...you could find a whole new original look!
I hope you do find what you're looking for though!!!!

Elly, you are brilliant! Don't know why I didn't think to do a search for crimpers. I found them on several websites, now to find someplace local to buy them so I can have them NOW, LOL! Unfortunately by searching I've found that there are LOTS of different patterns available, and now I can't decide which one(s) I want.
I made MMF for the first time yesterday and I'm ready to play!
If anyone remembers the picture I'm talking about, I'd still love to see it again. Thanks!
Laura.
Well I just went through all the photos in the mini cake gallery and I couldn't find what you were looking for. Sorry!
There's a tiered cake with a tea cup on top entered into the Mother's Day contest that has crimped edges.
I used a crimper on my First communion cake. Got a set of five from cakesbysam.com. I think it was about $10 for 5?
Thanks for the help! I found them on sugarcraft's website for $2.50 ea, and since they're local I won't have to pay shipping. They have about 8 different kinds. Wanna bet I end up with them all before long?
That's where I went yesterday morning! I love that place, and it's so much more fun wandering around in the store than just ordering from the website. I'm sure I spend more on "extra stuff" than I save in shipping, but I only buy things I really need, LOL!
I got 5 of the crimpers, and I'm hoping to have time to play with them in the next few days - I'll post pictures if I'm able to do anything that looks like it should!
Laura.
kewl! If you're going to post pictures, would you also post a picture of one of the crimpers so we can see what it looks like?
I'm not sure where to find them on sugarcraft's website, but here are two links that show them very well.
The first shows the different patterns, and the second shows what the whole thing looks like.
The ones I got don't have the black ring on them, but I think they'll be fine to start with, and at $2.50 ea, I could get several to try out!
