I would like to make a two tier cake for a graduation party. I have two 6" pans (2 layer 6 inch top tier). What size pan should I use for my bottom tier? Should I make the bottom tier two layers?

How many pieces would that size cake make?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would suggest using a 10" circle pan with your 6" inch pans. The 10" and 6" inch should be the same height, right around 4 inches is good. So, 2 layers of each.
I do not know how many people this would serve though.

Thanks so much patton78, for your speedy reply! I think you are right, 10" would look proportional! I'll make 2 layers, 4" total for each tier.
