an orange curd or orange buttercream would be delicious, or I've also done an orange cake with a white chocolate buttercream that was to die for! In fact anything dark chocolate (buttercream, whipped ganache etc) would be very special too! Hope that gives you a few ideas!
either got the chocolate route; everyone always likes orange and chocolate. Or go with a lemon filling or something like that to keep it light and fresh tasting.
MM White chocolate sounds good!!
You could also do something spicey. I drink and orange spice tea that is good. Something nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom type of deal.
Or you could also do another fruit....lemon, raspeberry....
Or something creamy. Like cream cheese frosting or something whipped to do an oranges 'n cream type of thing.
Here are some suggestions;
Anything chocolate works well with orange, and even a mocha chocolate.
Also, the taste of nut works well, so you could cover the cake in marzipan with an orange buttercream.
You could go the fruity route and do a coconut type, cream cheese or sour cream filling and/or topping with mango or some fruit in the layers.
Have fun!!!
I did two orange cakes last week. One with chocolate buttercream and one with plain buttercream. Both were great, but the chocolate buttercream was everyone's favorite. I think I added a little orange oil to the plain buttercream too and it was wonderful.
Almond flavored buttercream is really yummy with orange cake. I make an orange cake that I fill and ice with orange almond buttercream. I use fresh squeezed orange juice for the liquid, add some orange zest and a little almond extract, it is to die for!
