Help...gift Box Cake-Hot Mess
Decorating By spoiledtoodef Updated 3 May 2006 , 6:19am by spoiledtoodef
Hello all....I have a huge issue. I made my first gift box cake. At first I was so excited b/c my cake baked perfectly level and at least I had a great base. Then I made my buttercream icing and icing my cake. At this point everything was still fine. I colored my Satin Ice fondant and covered the cake....That is when my life fell apart... I couldn't get sharp edges, started to see bulges from the b/c icing, it just wasn't working for me. The lid was ok....But then I tried the fondant bow for the first time and it was just a mess. Not sure where I went wrong there...
So in other words I need help. I am ashame to post the pic...the cake looks a hot mess. Any tips would be greatly appreicated....
TIA, Kim
hot mess?...where? I think it is really cute! I like that pink and green! I think you are being too hard on yourself.
I agree, there's nothing wrong with that cake! Whatever you think you did wrong, you certainly covered it up well. Great job!
Boy, if you think that's a mess, just look at my photos. Now they're a mess!! I think your cake is really pretty!!
Hello everyone, thanks alot for your comments. I think the pic is hiding my flaws... OK, I will post the other pics for you too see what I have done wrong....
I think it looks fine. If your big problem was your bow, did you add gum-tex to your fondant? that will make it set up much faster, so it won't sag as much.
You guys are so special. Thanks for the nice comments. I guess when I look at the other cake boxes on the site and they look like boxes. Well, when you look at mine it really doesn't.
Alimonkey, no I didn't use gumpaste. However, my biggest problem was putting it together to look like a bow. I not sure if I didn't cut the strips wide enough. Or, if I didn't have enough pcs. to put the bow together....I just don't know......
