Well, finally added my pics to a website...but since I'm not offically a business yet...I just added them to my online family website. And it is just photos, nothing else.

My husband is working on my business website...but until then...I needed something so people could see my cakes w/o having to meet me everytime!!

So far noone has really said anything, but was just wondering b/c I've received a few comments on pics of my son that are in other galleries...which wasn't sure about that. But guess that is to be expected if I add my cake pics to family website!!!

Just wondering if ya'll thought it was tacky or not??

Oh the site: http://pinkbunny.smugmug.com

I don't think it's tacky, it's not like you have to sift through to find the cake photos if that's what you're after!!! I think it's totally to be expected...and it's temporary anyhow right??? I mean, obviously you wouldn't have all of those pics of your son (who is just beautiful by the way.....I am unbiased too, I'm not related to you LOL) on your professional business site...so I say go with it...it's a way that if people really want to check out your work they can. If I were ordering a cake and heard by word of mouth about you or however they hear...I wouldn't mind going to that site, vs. just taking my chances that you're good. I think people WANT to see pics of your work even if it means there are other "personal" galleries on the same site. Good luck with your business your cakes are awesome.

Your cakes are beautiful! I would however, move them to a different location. While your family is beautiful (not tacky at all) I think it would be better to have your cakes seperate and have a location 'all about cakes'. Also, you could add comments such as what type of cake and frosting/decoration.

I think your website is just great! Is it a free site, or do you have to pay a fee?

Thanks
Connie

Pinkbunny-I just looked at your site and it is awesome. I know it's temporary but it's still cool. Beautiful family. And, your cakes are professional looking. I wish to someday make cakes like you too! If your clients would like to see your cake pics then tell them that your site is temporary and that family pics are on there. I'm sure clients would not mind at all. Easy to navigate on there. I have never seen on any site that you can buy a pic for .19 cents. That is different. LOL. Beautiful cakes! icon_smile.gif ~Josie

I LOVE how fast your website is. My puter is kind of slow but your stuff just popped right up for me.

Hi there!

I don't think it is tacky and if this is your only means of displaying the cakes at this point, then it is fine.

However, coming from a marketing background, going forward you should probably focus on the cakes themselves with no other distractions, ie family and other surroundings in the background. You want to be taken seriously as a business and you want the cakes to be the main emphasis. The eye will wonder off the cakes if there is something there to compete for attention, trust me. Just something to think about... icon_biggrin.gif

Best...

Your cakes are fab!!!! I think it's a great temporary fix! I'll have to look into this myself - I need a way for people to see my work too!! Good Job!

yeah, this only a temporary thing until I (um I mean my husband) can get the business site up! But I'm just trying to show the cakes themselves...to give people and idea of what I can/have done. But unfortunately, I can't really seperate them anymore then they are.... on this specific site anyway.

But since I already had this site (the layout and everything is pretty much done for you..and it is a yearly fee of like $30...i think)...didn't want to do another one for just cake pics that I would have to format and stuff...and then have to still have to mess around w/the actual cake site we are working on.

but for a temporary solution....was hoping this would work!! but I'm getting more comments on my son & family (everyone LOVES his boot pics)...then I am on my cakes!!! icon_cool.gif

Is there a way to make the other albums private? (or vise versa) We have ours on yahoo, (which is free) and we can choose to make each album either private or public or by invitation only.

there is a way to make them private.....w/a password access only...but wasn't sure if that was worse than just leaving it alone. B/c the galleries will still show up, but when you click on them it'll ask for a password.

On yahoo, the albums do not show up at all if they are marked private. I can see them and that they are private, but someone who is just looking at the site does not see any trace of them.

oh well duh!!! that makes sense!! maybe I should have someone else look to see if they can see the other photos/galleries!!

hadn't had to try to make them private until recently, so when I put all of them to private and could still seem...I thought...well isn't that a useless tool!! icon_confused.gif

I think it should be seperate. I dont know .......thats kinda like having your cakes pics in the same photo album as family....so what if its not online.... I agree your family is "not tacky " as the other posted but there are definatle to seperate things.....I would rather have nothing than to have something that may turn someone off! I say this because I have an OCD family and Im used to it weird things bugging people. As you can see Im still at the nothing point! at least you have a webpage to look forward to.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try to make the family galleries private so only people w/my password can see them!! And I told my husband to hurry his little behind up and get moving on my website and PROGRAM!! icon_confused.gif
