OK here are my plans for my vision:
i am going to make a Suit Case Cake with the top lid propped open. I want to use a long, thick rectangular cookie, that will hang over the edge of the cake about a 1/2 inch on each end, the cookie will also be a banner that says "good luck". Dowels will be used on the back end of the lid to keep it from sliding. on top of the first cake and under the cookie banner i had planed to make it look like fondant cloths hanging out of the case, there will also be Buttercream under the fondant. My frosting will be crusting butter cream and my cake is a docked up cake mix. the cake is a 1/4 sheet cake

the cake will have to travel in a car

now questions:
1) will the cookie be enough support to prop open the lid? if not what could i use?

2)do i need to place something under and above the cooke so it dosent sink into the cakes?

3) will a few dowels keep the top from sliding off?

4) can i tort the bottom cake and the top cake or will everything be sliding off?

any tips would be awesome, i have to have this cake done by Friday

thanks
lacie

I have yet to try my own, but from other forums, people used dowels or even lollipop sticks in one case to prop the top lid up. These lids were made of either cake or rice crispies and I am not sure if the cookies on their own would be strong enough to hold up the lid if you make it out of cake. If the cookies are really strong, you might either need to have them go all the way thru the bottom cake to the board like you would with a dowel. The others had no problem with any sliding using their dowels and lollipop sticks.
A lot of others tort their cakes that they use in amazing 3d ways, so I imagine that won't interfere.
Hope that helps.
