If someone would be so kind as to direct me to a resource of how much MMF is needed for certain size/shape cakes. I know wilton has one in their yearbooks, but since I make the MMF, how much MMF is made with a batch exactly, and what will it cover??

Particularly a 16 inch one layer round. Thank you!!

I have found that one recipe (the 16 oz bag of marshmellows) will cover a 10 inch cake with no problem....but I would love to see a chart as well!

I'm not sure if you have a scale or not but for a 16 inch round you'll need approximately 6 lb. 4 oz. and for a square cake you'll need 6 lb. 10 oz. These are amounts for 1/4" thick fondant. This was in the book Spectacular Cakes by Mich Turner. HTH!

I covered one 10" round and one 6" round with one large recipe of MMF.

I made the large batch of MMF (used a whole bag of mini marshmallows) a few days ago and weighed it with my baby food scale. It made 3 pounds and 1 ounce. I haven't done the small batch, so I can't help you there.

Also, on page 100 of the Celebrate with Fondant book by Wilton, there is a very detailed chart that tells you how many ounces of fondant you need in order to cover your cake with a 1/4" thickness. It lists the amounts for 3" and 4" high rounds, 2" high sheets, 4" high ovals, 4" high hearts, 4" high petals, 4" high squares, 4" high hexagons, and 3" high contours. I used this chart the other day for my oval cake and found that the recommended amount gave me some left over fondant---so it does leave some wiggle room for finessing the fondant. I've only started making MMF cakes--or any fondant cake, for that matter--but this helped me a lot.

I measure the cakes, across the top and down both sides, 16 inch cake plus 8 for the sides, and roll it out to 24 inches. I also have never weighed it. I think it would depend on the thickness. Now when I measure it out on Saturday, I will weigh it for each layer and make my own chart.
