Wow...what an awesome idea. If I ever get brave enought to do cakes, I may just have to "borrow" this idea. Thanks for sharing!

That was my thought exactly! I don't know if I will ever get that brave though. Maybe try cupcakes and see how that goes. I don't know why I am so afraid of cakes.

MichelleM77 - You can do it.. I've looked at your cookie and cake pictures and you do beautiful work. I'm sure a cake wouldn't be a problem for you.
I don't see your website, but see it mentioned on one of your cookie pics. Do you mind sharing it, I'd love to look at it.
There are a couple of members here who have used this idea. I do not have specific links, but I remember seeing someone's cake with animal cookies on it.

I put cookies on my cakes all the time. It's fun and the customers love the "extra" treat.
I actually did that last weekend for my son's girlfriend's "Congrats" cake.
She earned her black belt in taekwondo and I wanted to do something related to that. So instead of trying to draw it on the icing, I made a template and cut out a cookie. I wish I had taken a picture of it. I iced the cookie in Toba's white meringue flow icing and used Wilton's black to make the black belt. I'll try to attach my template. I don't know if it will go through or not because I've never done this
I find that my problem isnt the baking of the cake itself, I can do that fine. I just cannot seem to decorate it at all. I seem to become all thumbs. Funny thing is, I can decorate a cookie. maybe because its on a smaller scale? About cookies, how do you make your own cutters? I have a few clients asking if I'll do desined cookies from custom art. Would I just use copper sheeting cut to 1/4 inch strips or is there a cheeper easier material to use?
I like putting cookies on cakes too...
You could always just decorate your cake with your decorated cookies, use them as borders, or around the sides, arrange a cute scene on the top of the cake...

Count me in as one who loves using cookies to decorate cakes. I did two cakes for my martial arts studio's kids' Black Belt ceremony last month, one with two cookies laying flat on top (in my gallery) and one with one cookie for each kid getting a black belt standing up on top (using lollipop sticks stuck on the back with white chocolate).
The kids loved it, because they each got to keep their cookie. In the past, the person who plans the kids' ceremonies has let me have completely free rein on how I wanted to do the cakes, but this time, she said I have to do one cake with the cookies from now on. (I can do what I want for the other.)

Thank you so much. I was all ready to call the nearest machine shop and ask the guys to give me a deal on sheet metal...lol.
Yes, Antonia...what a lovely cake. See...someday I will be brave enough to decorate a cake. I just bake em, than I make a friend of mine decorate them...lol.
You can also go to a local tinsmith...they are still around!
(I found one who works from a little shop in one of those "Ye Olde Tinsmith Shoppe" kind of places that the kids tour on school outings. He's awesome and does a great job making them...for just a few dollars!
Those are adorable!! That's amazing detail for a mini cupcake. I think I would have taken mine home and admired it for a few hours before I could no longer resist!
I really like putting decorated cookies on cakes too. I feel it really makes the cake special. I did a baby shower cake for a co-worker and girlfriend of mine. They wanted a baseball theme and I was really struggling on how to make it extra special. So I made some baseball bat, baseball, and baseball mit cookies. The cake turned out really nice (there's a picture of it in my gallery). Just a simple half sheet cake with relatively simple buttercream decoration. IMO, the cookies were what really made it great.
