OK, I have tried to look at instructions on how to do this, but I just can't seem to grasp it!

How in the world do I do an FBCT, please help, I am so frustrated!

Do they all have to be homemade or can you purchase them. I know these might be crazy questions, but I am completely lost on this subject!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! usaribbon.gif

Thank you
Connie

I'm not sure what you are confused about. Did you try it and it not work or are you confused about where to start?

I am no expert like most of the people on this site, but I did my first FBCT for my son's 1st birthday and it turned out great. I was so nervous too.

I used black wilton icing that is premade and sold in the tube (that you just put the tip right on the tube) to outline the picture. Then made buttercream icing (using some butter in recipie b/c was told that it comes off the paper better). I filled in the spaces with tip 3 and spread with a butter knife.

When I was done with all the colors I outlined the whole thing with white icing (b/c that was the color of my cake) with tip 12. Then filled in the outline with white icing and made it so I could not see the picture underneath.

I covered with another piece of wax paper and put in several walmart plastic bags. I froze for more then 24 hours. When it was time to put on my iced cake I just took my top layer of wax paper off and turned onto cake. I outlined it with stars as you can see in my picture. It is the big duck.

Hope this helps a little.

Have you read the instructions? Or are you just confused from the discussions?

I think the instructions are pretty clear, but....

I start by piping in the details...outlining everything that needs to be outlined...adding things like eyebrows and eyes and such...all the small stuff. Then just squeeze the larger areas in. You'll need to follow instructions about pressing it gently to make sure all the voids are filled in. My first one broke, but on the second one, I went back when it was all done and added a pretty hefty layer of the same buttercream I used for the main part of the cake. That one was pretty thick - and pretty strong.

The thing I do differently from the instructions, is I don't use waxed paper. I use plastic wrap...it releases better for me.

i also havent attempted this yet, but i cant wait to. After you are done piping all the details and filling it in, do you put wax paper over the back and lightly go over it with a spatula to make sure everything looks filled in? I would be afraid that the little details would get messed up.

Did that make sense? lol lemme know if it didnt =)

I am just confused about where to start!

Do you purchase the picture from a cake supply store? usaribbon.gif

Thanks

You can use any picture you want, but there's a difference in making an fbct out of a trademarked character, such as mickey mouse, for yourself or to sell. If you sell it, they're (disney) isn't able to make money off of it, and you could possibly be sued or something.
