How do I? My hands are pink! Anyone have a suggestion? Hopefully one that won't damage my skin. icon_rolleyes.gif

I usually just put a few drops of bleach in some hot water (in a bowl) and soak my hands for as long as I can. (psst...it's a nice excuse to not have to run after toddlers for a little bit.. icon_razz.gificon_lol.gif ..'I have bleach on my hands - you catch him!' LOL) It's not necessarily great for your hands, but it gets the job done. And I follow up with a really good lotion, sometimes body butter because it's soooo thick and leaves my hands feeling great!

Lemon juice can help, but I've never had complete success with it...just the bleach in water. icon_smile.gif

I've found that icing color comes off my fingers onto fondant all the time (likes it there better, I guess) So, if you have some scrap white fondant, play around with that and a bit of crisco, and hopefully the color will come off those fingers in time for your closeup icon_smile.gif hmmmm, wonder what the fondant will look like...

I use little lemon juice and little dawn dish soap and scrub hands together then run both hands up and down on faucet the metal seems to help.. The spout where water pours from, you just wrap hands around and rub up and down real fast..(AND KEEP YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER!!!) icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif
Thats also how you get onion and garlic smell off your hands by using the faucet on the sink... I know sounds dumb and make look really silly and people may ask what the heck are you doing but I smile and say dont you wish you knew... That'll make them leave faster than anything and you have CLEAN hands...lol

There is something about the way onion, garlic and fish smells react when you touch anything stainless steel to them. The little rectangles they sell in kitchenware stores to remove smells from your hands are nothing more than a bar of stainless steel.

Getting back to the question at hand, I have always had great results using Windex brand window cleaner (not generic). I also use it to clean my airbrush.

I found that if I rub my hands with some crisco before coloring fondant/gumpaste it made the color come out a little easier... I've gone around with pink hands many of times!! thumbs_up.gif

I have good results using dishsoap on my dry hands before adding any water. Rub them for a few minutes and rinse.

Ok, where was I??? Oh yeah....pink hands...and green is another "sticker". When I'd get off work, my hands would be sooooo bad with tint that if that's all you saw of me, you wouldn't know what color my skin was!!! I tried everything.....bleach, lemon, that scrubbing rough soap that guys use that work on cars...oh, never tried playing with my sink faucet but sounds like fun..whooo hoooo.....oh sorry, back on track here...uhhhhm, oh yeah, I always found that what finally did it was washing my hair!!!!! Worked every time!!!!!
Thanks for the laugh!!

Baby wipes, they will take anything off your hands. But you need to use them before you wash your hands. I had a very young student in cake class one night with color all over her. She just kept wiping it all over her. She used all the baby wipes I had and still had some on her. But if you wipe it up it usually works. Hey it works on oil paint.

K I always get color on my hands from work. What works best for me is.........shampoo!!! Yep good ol shampoo. O yeah and if possible I always wear gloves too (have too at work). but occasionally they spring a leak and color gets on my hands.
So I was the sticky off and get as much color off as possible with regular soap.
Take a shower when I get home and the color is gone.

I made a discovery when I started airbrushing cakes. First, I'm very bad at it and I make a mess LOL but more importantly, airbrush cleaning fluid will take the color stains off your hands and countertops thumbs_up.gif .

Helendelk,

Thanks for the good laugh! I needed to smile today!! icon_lol.gif

My hands are still somewhat pink, so I'll give this a shot! My husband told me to try alcohol and of course that just made me stink! Didn't do a thing for my hands. Tried the bleach thing and it took about 75% of the color out of my hands. Didn't dry them out too bad either. I still have quite a bit of color under my nails and in the cracks of my hands, especially on my right palm.

I think I'll wait until my hubby takes the kids outside before I do this though... don't want to have to explain it! lol

I've done it twice and still have the pink hands! I think my stains were worse than normal because my hands are so dry. Seems like my skin soaked up more color than it normally does. Just in time for my son's birthday party too! I spent a lot of time with my hands in my pockets. icon_rolleyes.gif

Try using toothpaste. It has mild abrasives in it that may get the dye off gently. It works great on my son's Kool-Aid moustaches! icon_lol.gif

ROFL.....I've been reading the replies to this question out loud to my boyfriend.......

His comment is "Who knew you could have sooo much fun decorating cakes....or how kinky it could be" icon_biggrin.gificon_wink.gif

I'm going to try some of these tips, too...I've been playing icon_razz.gif with the reds and greens lately, too.
