Sorry, I am a little frustrated. I am using cake mix, maybe that is the problem? I am making 9 inch rounds, and they come up just barely 3/4 to the top of the pan.

What am I doing wrong?

You are not filling your pans full enough. For 2 9" round pans, you will need 2 cakes mixes. The rule of thumb is to fill them each 2/3 of the way full. You will not use all of the 2 mixes, but you can make some cupcakes with what's left.

If you have a Wilton Yearbook in the center section there will be a list of the basic cake pans and how much batter to use per pan.

Most cakes mixes make 4-6 cups of batter, depending on the flavor and brand.
