I have to do a graduation cake in May. What is the easiest way to make a graduation cap to go on top of a sheet cake? Not really interested in it being a cake. I'm thinking gumpaste or fondant? Any tips on how to do it? The top part is obvious but what about the bottom part? Form the fondant over a ball pan or what?

I have read somewhere they use a garlic press for the tassle and it looked really nice, Hopefully someone else will know about the rest of it.

Lisa,

Here's a sheet cake I did...Is this what you need??? I just used a large cupcake covered in fondant for the base and I cut a square piece of maroon fondant for the board and let it dry. After it dried I just glued the board to the cupcake. For the tassel I used my clay gun.
