I found two answers : For a 9x12 you need 1 and half boxes for each pan.

For a 9x13 you need 2 cake mixes 1 cake per pan. So you can see that this is for 2 layers. two layers serves 50 people and the size of each serving 1x2. This is from Dolores McCann from Sugarcraft. In this she is assuming you are using the standard mix with the eggs, oil, etc. And I think this is probably wedding cake servings. Hope this helps.

I did get your pm and what I ment was...if you have a finished 3 layer cake. If it would add to the number of servings you would get. I read somewhere that you get more servings by adding layers of cake. But I don't how many it would add. I guess by adding more cake layers you add to the height of the cake which would mean the slices are smaller so you could get more servings. I don't really know if that is correct.

But thanks for that info...

I usually go by about 1/3 more, so 3 -layer sheet 9 x 13 would be about 63 servings.
