I bought colored fondant and used a bit. put it in plastic bag. But it's pretty hard now. (this is from Oct 2005 - almost 6 months ago. boy time flies) Anyway, can i add water and soften it to use it? or just trash it?

thanks,
Kat

Health wise it is fine...but there is a very hard crust around it..try popping in the microwave, maybe a minute, but monitor every few seconds until it is soft...cut off the hard crust..the inside should still be usable.. icon_smile.gif

My instructor told me to never throw out fondant... you can use a little crisco to knead with and it will soften again. Sometimes the outside just is hard.

My advice is to use this only for practicing/experimenting--IF you can get it back to some workable consistency. You should never knead hard bits, or dry fondant, into good stuff. It can dry at a different rate, take color at a different saturation, and generally leave elephant skin or dry spots.

I was taught to always peel off dry bits and to throw it away. It's just not worth the trouble.
