Ok, I have posted once but I think I put it under the wrong topic. So I need your help. I made a R/V cake using the Choc. Cake Lady book. But, it just didn't turn out right. The taste wasn't there for me. I don't have time to make it from scratch....because I have so many other ones to do. So....I read somewhere that someone had used the R/V Duncan Hines but added things to make it their own. PPPPPLLLLEEEAAAASSSSEE HELP icon_cry.gif ! I am running out of time and I would like for it to be a great tasting cake, because this customer is a first timer.....Thanks again...Kim

I use DH cake mixes exclusively. The Red Velvet works well doctored. I would think you could use the recipe for "Durable cake for 3D or Wedding cake" featured here on CC. I would recommend using vanilla pudding (I prefer french vanilla...always have it on hand!). You could also use chocolate pudding mix, but it might darken your batter slightly (not necessarily a bad thing).
You can also make it straight by the box and simply add 1 small box of instant pudding mix!

Gmcakes,
Thanks alot for your help. I had to go ahead and try to make the cake. I used buttermilk instead of water and added a box of choc. fudge pudding mix. It seems ok for now. I haven't tried it yet. Once again thanks for your help....Kim

I use the DH red velvet and my customers love it. I have gotten repeat cakes just because they were dying for some of my red velvet cake. All I do is add a box of dry instant chocolate pudding to the cake mix (4-serving size). Works like a charm. I don't increase anything or add anything else extra.

Good luck!

I was given this suggestion by someone on another board, and it was the best rv cake I've ever had...and my customers agreed! Very dense and moist, delish!

1 DH rv cake mix
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup sour cream
eggs and oil as per box, mix and bake per box directions.

Thanks JessicaM!

Will definitely have to give your recipe a try...having been getting more requests than usual for this cake recently!
