What Color Leaves On White Wedding Cake?

Okay, this may be a stupid question, but I can't think straight because I'm so nervous! My first wedding cake is this Sunday. It's all white with mostly white royal icing roses and a few roses in periwinkle. My question: When I add the leaves for the roses, should I do white leaves or green? Which would look best? Also, if green, what Wilton color green would be the best color? Thanks for any help. I need all I can get!!! icon_smile.gif

It is really hard to say. I would do a test with white leaves and green leaves.

Because you are have some color, I would do green to highlight the perwinkle against the white roses. If it was all white then I would go white leaves.

Sorry you asked about the green, I would make a light green color because most of the flowers are white and it would soft on the cake.

that's such a hard one...but as for the green, If you do decide to use the green leaves....I will let you know something my wilton instructor told us that I thought was a great idea.......when you're getting the green icing the green you like most of the green coloring by wilton make the leaves look REALLY bright green and kinda horrifying, my instructor said if you mix a touch of the icing you use for your roses into the leaf color icing....it helps to soften the green and makes it look more appealing with the flower color......and it really does work, she made pink roses and had attrociously colored green icing and just put some of the pink in there and it was amazing, it really toned down the green , but there was no way you'd guess there was pink in it!!!! But it made the green look waaaaay better next to the pink

I would do a soft green (Moss, or Avacado). A regular green, will come out kind of "mint" looking. If you don't have those colors, use your leaf green and mix in a little brown. If it's too dark, just add more icing to tone down the color.

Well, the roses are made of royal icing, and I was going to do the leaves in buttercream, so I can't mix the icings together. That brings up another question, though. How long can royal icing be on buttercream without melting? The wedding is at 5:00 Sunday and I was going to set up around 2:00 or 3:00. Will that amount of time affect the roses? Also, how long do you all usually give yourselves to do set-up for weddings? I don't have to do the table or anything, just the cake. Since this is my first, I want to make sure I have plenty of time. Thanks again!

Your royal flowers will be fine for that time period. I would also use the moss green for the leaves - that's about the only color green I ever use for leaves. The others are just too bright for my liking.
