I have a bride that hates fondant and MMF..she doesn't like the look, she likes the look of buttercream. (and the taste) The cake is going to have a lot of gum paste flowers on it and I would like to try using rolled buttercream, but had a few questions:

Does it look like buttercream or is it just another fondant?

How does it hold up?

How does it taste?

Do you apply it like fondant?

Should i try the recipe here? icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks!

It should be smooth like a fondant.

It doesn't taste quite as sweet as MMF and seems to hold up fairly well.

You apply it just like fondant.

I tried the recipe on this site and had many problems with it. It had many tears in it when I tried to put it on a cake. I tried adding more powdered sugar and tried adding more shortening. I really had a hard time with it. I eventually went 50/50 with MMF so I could get it on the cake. I have not tried another recipe yet, but I am looking for a new one.

If she likes the look of BC why can't you just ice the cake with BC and use Viva to smooth it out. The gumpaste flowers would still sit on the cake nicely.
