Hi...does anyone know the best non-fading food coloring for dummy cakes? Are there any sites you could link me to for that?

I found that all of my colored dummy cakes have seriously faded to white in my display window....all help appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Ellen

Try to spray them with Spar Varathane. Your cakes are not edible so it doesn't matter. The varathane protects the colors. You will get some fading because the sun is magnified through the glass. Also the art teacher at my store told me about a product that painters use to protect their colors. I will be looking into that. Good Luck

I've never heard of Spar Varathane...what is that exactly?

Scrap that idea. I told you the wrong product. It is Minwax Polycrylic that I use on my cakes and cookies for display. The Spar has oils which would dissolve royal. I am trying it on a royal icing rose as we speak. I started spraying my display cakes last year when a little girl broke the tail off of my turkey cake and put it in her mouth. I just printed a small sign, to warn every one that these cakes are not edible.

Creative Cutters (Geraldine Randelsome) uses Sugarflair colours for her displays, and some of them have been out for YEARS and look great!

Otherwise you can get something called PermaIce which you can colour with acrylic paints (I believe)... it's NOT edible, but is intended to be PERMANENT!
Here's one link I found for it (and the colours):

Pink and lavender are the colors I have had the most trouble with.
