Hello Everyone,
I was wondering how I can pipe the pullout grass that is used around the base of cakes especially ball cakes. What tip should I use? Also is it best to use green buttercream or could I use Royal Icing and get the same look. My cake will be fondant covered!
Many Thanks for your help!! icon_smile.gif

you can use royal or buttercream, if you use royal it will be crispy to eat and if you use buttercream it will of course be soft, its up to your taste buds.
You can use one of the special multi hole tips or you can use a sugarcraft gun.

We did a little on a recent sheet cake that had a baseball in the corner and we use the multi hole tip... not sure of the correct name

I also use tip 233. It's great for grass, fur and hair.

Thankyou, looks like 233 is the winner! Is the technique difficult? I was going to give it a try and see whether it looks like grass. I assume it is similar to a star only pulling upwards at the end?

It's not hard at all, very easy to get the hang of. Moves pretty quickly too. Just make sure you anchor it before you pull up, otherwise you end up with the strings of bc just hanging onto the tip. I guess you could compare it to the star. Anchor, pull up, then stop pressure and lift. Hope this makes sense.
