I've been having a discussion, with myself, about baking larger layers, specifically 14".

One school of thought is to bake each layer, individually, to avoid torting and to bake at a lower temp, longer, to avoid having to use a heating core but still being able to get moist layers without overdone edges.

Anyone have any advice??

The largest layers I have had to bake are 12" layers....14" scares me. icon_cry.gif

I HAVE DONE A 16" SQUARE LAYER BEFORE. OH...IT TOOK FOR EVER! I DIDN'T FILL IT AS FULL AS I WOULD HAVE A SMALLER PAN. I ENDED UP DOING A 3 LAYER 16" CAKE SINCE MY LAYERS WERE NOT QUITE 2" THICK. I DO THINK THAT NEXT TIME I WILL USE A HEATING CORE. FOR ME LAYERING 3 16" LAYERS WAS QUITE A CHALLENGE.

MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE CAN YOU BETTER DIRECTION. GOOD LUCK AND DON'T BE SCARED...U CAN DO IT!

I've done this with great results...Put 3 flower nails in the center spaced evenly apart. I also used the bake even strips, one cake without, one with...I will always use these or something similar. Oven temp on 325* and it was around 55 min.

Tried the heating core...not sure I like it very well.
