I see all the amazing figures made from fondant, candy clay, etc, that some of you do. I would love to learn, but there are no classes for anything in my neck of the woods. Could some of you tell me a good book, or video that I could buy to learn to make these? Thanks.

I love Debbie Brown's books! Her instructions are really easy to follow. The best way is to just dive on in and play!! Have fun and pretend you're back in kindergarten!

Clay directions can be modified to use with fondant or candy clay. icon_smile.gif

Thanks laneysmom! What are they called? I bought some playdoh and made a frog today. He turned out pretty good actually( I don't have a digital camera or I would show you). Now I have the fever. I want to learn to make all kinds of things!

I have just starting playing around modeling with fondant and gumpaste. I went into the clay section at AC Moore's and Michaels and purchased a few of the tools for clay modeling and purchased a couple of books. One is titled the "Sculpy Way". The directions are clear and easy to follow and you can slightly modify them to work with fondant. I don't know of any classes in my area either. I just play around with it in my free time. Everyone on CC is great with ideas and advice if you need help.

Well, I am learning too so not much help but I agree, Debbie Brown does the cutest figures! Haven't bought her book YET but have enjoyed looking at her website. I've looked at a couple of books on amazon.com too that are for clay figures; and someone here (sorry, don't remember who it was!) posted a link to marzipan figures. Do you have that? Great for ideas. http://www.marzipanworld.com/acatalog/Marzipan_World_Marzipan_Animals_60.html

I love what laneysmom said...just pretend like you are in kindergarten again. icon_smile.gif

I am afraid that there isn't really too much in the market about doing figures. You just have to practice! I cann't make anything out of playdough i love fondant for it though. I think that if you want to practice buy some fondant and try to do things out of it. ps. you can always break them and seal the mass in the clingfilm and then use it again.
