You could make it like an armadillo, but cuter, no tail and little spikey things all over. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Never made one, but I guess a half ball cake for the body, a cupcake (which you would tinker with) for the face. For the fur? quills? you could use the grass tip or make royal icing 'quills"with the round tip, dry and insert (like Colette Peter's cactus cake" Well, I tried. Probably others here with better ideas. Don't forget to post a photo.

Lindy Smith has a new book coming out, it's all animals, there is a hedgehog on the back cover, when do you have to have it?
I don't think this book comes out until mid March though.

There are some good ideas in Panther's link. I thought of doing a hedgehog cake like those but I was thinking of using Kit-Kat bars cut in half as the spikes. Although..I guess that would make it look more like a porcupine. icon_rolleyes.gif

I do a cake thats covered with almond slivers that are poked in so they stand up then I pour ganache over and my family calls it a hedgehog cake because the chocolate covered almonds look like the hedgehog fur. So if you get your shape this is one way to get the body texture.

I used the mini "Balloon" shaped pans to make hedgehog cupcakes for my grandson's birthday at school. I don't know how to add a picture here in the forum otherwise I could show you how adorable they came out.
As for a regular sized cake, I would use the "Football" shaped cake pan and then just round off one end. A quick & easy way to get the shape you need for a hedgehog.

I love CC!!! So informative and FRIENDLY!!

I'm really glad this came up, I was never sure what a hedgehog looked like. They are cute, at least in cake! Janice
