Hi,
Can anyone help me with a decoration for a cake in camouflage (ie Mash/army colours.
I want to make a cake for my father who's turning 80. He is a veteran of WWII and has a reputation for turning any conversation to start with "up in the islands"(New Guinea/Borneo)
I think this would be a fitting cake for him and totally unexpected.
Taking into account that I'm a relatively new decorator and I will probably make a sheet cake.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Karen
Hi there,
Do a search on "camoflauge" in the galleries and there are some cute cakes. It looks like most of them are done in buttercream. Good luck!
I HAVE DONE A COUPLE OF CAMOFLAUGE CAKES. I HAVE NOT UPLOADED A PIC YET...BUT THEY ARE FAIRLY EASY TO DO. I USE THE CAMO COLORS (BROWN, GREEN, HUNTER GREEN, BLACK) TO COVER MY CAKE USING A 7 OR 12 TIP. ONCE THE CAKE IS COVERED YOU CAN USE THE NAPKIN TECHNIQUE OR SMOOTH THE CAKE WITH HOT WATER AND A SPATUALA. BE CAREFUL THOUGHT NOT TO SMOOTH TOO HARD OR THE COLORS WILL BLEND AND BECOME AN UGLY MESS. I LIKE TO TRIM MY CAKES IN HUNTERS ORANGE...ESPECIALLY IF THE MAN IS A HUNTER. I WILL TRY TO REMEMBER TO POST MY CAKES SO U CAN TAKE A LOOK. ALSO TAKE PINK PANTHERS ADVICE AND DO THE SEARCH.
HOPE THIS HELPS!
LES
Here is a link to my website that shows one of my camo cakes.

I typically will put the persons rank insignia, branch seal, or an award (medal) that they have received on it. If he received an awards during WWII, you could always pipe one out in buttercream.

I have a camo shirt posted (just click on the photos link) that I made using buttercream. I piped on the design with tip 12 and then flattened it out using a Viva paper towel to get the smooth look.
Pink flamingo,
Thanks I've been to your photo it's great.
I will check out tip 12 on this site.
Thanks for your help

I saw a camo cake in a book the other night where they used fondant. They cut the round irregular shapes out of different camo colors and laid them on the cake.
Hi Steph95,
Fondant sounds okay. It would sort of be like a jig-saw puzzle, all the pieces fitting together.
Sounds interesting.Thanks
Karen
YOu wouldn't necessarily have to put it together like a puzzle. Just do the background color in a basic camo green. Tint the other fondant in different shades of green and a shade of brown or 2, then position them on the cake. Several could interlock, but you wouldn't be fitting a puzzle together. It was in the birthday Express catalog under the "Special Forces" birthday party. Pull up their website at Birthdayexpress.com and see if you can find it in there. I use their catalogs for ideas and character cakes alot. Good Luck!!
