Hi everyone-
I was sooo delighted with the opportunity to attend my first wilton class. I am just saying that I really am going to eat, sleep, and dream cake decorating. Now the tuff part is deciding what kind of cake to make for my first class, either the character or the 8 inch round? I guess I have until this weekend. I have to do some shopping for some containers to carry my icing and other supplies in to and from class. Oh one thing also, I am not the only male in the class. icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif Thanks for reading everyone.

Congratulations! I really like the classes. I learned a lot. I would recommend you make the 8-inch cake. It'll be a little easier and you won't feel so overwhelmed (I was on my first character cake.) Good luck and have fun!!!

Go with the 8in cake.

I actually suggest to my students to not do the Character cake during the class. You will have around 30 mins to decorate your cake. Character cake are often time consuming, not to mention how many different colors they use. I like my students to be able to go home with a completely cake they can be proud of, not a half finished cake.

I've had a few students do pans that don't use alot of colors like the 2d football and 3d car, and they did not get to finish them in the amount of time you have to decorate them.

I think even with the 3-star tip, doing all those stars to frost a cake would make me batty. I have no plans on doing one of those unless I have to! icon_confused.gif

I let my students decide which they would like to do, but it is fun to learn the gel transfer and that is done on the round cake. Learn the gel transfer and the frozen buttercream transfer will be easier to learn. Transfers will let you do all different designs on your cakes.
