Help! I need to make a Thomas the Train cake for a friend this weekend. Any ideas?? Needs to feed 20 kids and 20 adults.

Looks like Wilton has discontinued the Thomas the Train pans and decorations. icon_sad.gif

I saw the ones in the gallery, but the ones I like are using the 3D pan which I can not find. Also, I don't have much experience cutting cakes to make my own 3D cake.

At this time, I have purchased the mini train pan and the large train cake pan. Just looking for ideas from all of you experts.

Thanks,
Nikki

Try Ebay! That's where I got mine.

Then use a sheet cake underneath for more servings. I have one in my photos I think.

I would put one of your train pans on top of a sheet cake and do an Island of Sodor theme. The size of your sheet pan will determine which train pan to use. That would give you enough servings without having to carve anything. You could try doing a frozen buttercream transfer for Thomas' face. I've never tried it myself, but, you would probably get a perfect Thomas face doing that. Good luck!

I agree...eBay! It's where you'll find all the discontinued items but the Thomas pan is selling for a lot right now $50-60 icon_eek.gif I did come across this adorable kit that makes making a 3D Thomas easy. It too is a little pricey but it's what I'd use to make one. It looks like this when done...

The item # is 4434379120 if you want to check it out.

You could also use the 3D choo-choo pan to make a Thomas though. You can find that on eBay too and it's reasonable.

I don't know how fast they ship but they at least sell it and you don't have to wait for an auction to end.

Hope that helps!

i was just in micheals last week and they had several choo-choo train pans because my 3yr old had his usual crying fit when he doesnt get something since i didnt buy it. when did they discontinue?? cant remember if it was thomas or not but chances are it was since my 3yr old found it among about 20 other pans.
