I have the Wilton Gumpaste Flower How to book and all of the flowers are made using wire.
I would like to make them without the wire. Does anyone know how to do that?

i have never used wire before.. just not convinced that it will be sturdy enough.. i actually make mine on toothpicks and i leave them on the toothpick as they sit on the cake much better...
I have only ever made gumpaste roses and I have done them both with and without a wire. When I made them without the wire I just set the partially formed rose in a bowl filled with tissues while I made the next petal and it worked great. I bet you could do this with most, if not all of the flowers.
I've also used toothpicks for flowers, but for groups of leaves I'm pretty sure that doens't work. I am going to start an arrangement today and I think wires are my only choice for leaves and for alstromeria. I really hate doing that because it really doesn't seem credible to then call the decorations edible.... I'd love to hear better ideas.

Thanks for all the info.
Spaghetti noodles sound like a good idea. I may try that.

I've tried spaghetti for a couple of things and found it breaks really easily (but I'm a klutz). If you find it works for you, plese post the kind/brand you use. The other problem I forsee is that the stems would be realy straight and difficult to use in an arrangement--but hopefully I'm wrong. Please post whatever you decide to do and how it works for you.
