I know you ladies and gents will help me as much as you can. This will be my first attempt for this customer and I would like to pull this off. So PLEASE if you have any ideas let me know....Thanks again Kim

first: search the galleries for ideas. I used just "helmet" & "helmet AND football" (yes, put AND in all caps) and some very nice ones came back for inspiration

I made one (carolina panthers b-day theme) last year using the sports ball pan and carving away the face area. This makes a small cake good for a maybe 5-8 people

for bigger cake, I'd use the soccer ball pan (it's a half ball) and the bake a layer cake of similar size (i think 8" or so)...cut the layer in half and stack to get back of helmet and stack the soccer ball on top (and support w/ dowels as part of face mask.

someone somewhere on here mentioned that for a really big one, use a stainless steel mixing bowel to bake the cake.

I covered my helmet in BC and then in fondant with fondant and painted accents. This gave a very smooth appearance (tho' panther's gray was no fun to make).

Some choose NOT to try a cut out face area and just leave it solid cake. This has advantage of making easier to stack (no cantelever to support), you can just draw the face mask directly on, and you get some more servings.

Hello Doug...
Thanks for the feedback. Yes someone else told me about the sport ball, however that on is a bit too small. I will also do a search and see what I can come up with. You have some really good ideas. Thanks again....Kim

I have done two of these. There is one in my photos. I also used the sports ball pan. Don't forget if you need more servings you can place it on a sheet cake make to look like a football field or carve a sheet cake to look like the jersey of the same team.

If there is a favorite rival team do two helmets sitting on the field facing each other with a score board reading Dolphins 24 (other team) 0.
